FALL SCHOOL TOURS
The National Gallery of Art is currently accepting school tour requests for tour dates between October 1 and December 7, 2012. Thematic, docent-led tours for students in kindergarten through grade 12 are structured to encourage close observation, foster an open exchange of ideas, and cultivate connections between art and life. While slowing down to look carefully at a few works of art, students have the opportunity to think creatively and critically. They will question, puzzle, use evidence for reasoning, and compare and connect works of art. Most powerfully, they will develop their own interpretations and ideas about works of art. Docents consult closely with teachers to ensure that tours enhance, support, and extend classroom learning and curriculum objectives. Learn more about the benefits of teaching and learning with original works of art. www.nga.gov/education/school.htm#about (about school tours) www.nga.gov/education/school.htm#request (tours and registration information) www.nga.gov/education/school_form.htm (school tour request form) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TEACHER WORKSHOPS Information about the 2012-2013 Teacher Workshops is now available online. Registration on a first-come, first-served basis. Workshops are designed to help teachers find meaning and pleasure in the visual arts. These programs introduce art in the Gallery's collection and special exhibitions, explore interdisciplinary curriculum connections, and model methods for teaching with art. All programs include teaching resource materials. Teachers of all subjects (prekindergarten through grade 12), homeschoolers, and pre-service educators are welcome. Space is limited, so please register early. Registration will be confirmed by e-mail. Registration fees are nonrefundable. Fees are waived for District of Columbia public school teachers with evidence of current employment. The repeat dates indicated will be scheduled if there is sufficient interest in the program. www.nga.gov/pdf/teacher_workshop_reg.pdf (registration form, PDF 152k) www.nga.gov/education/teacher.htm (Teacher Workshops 2012-2013) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
